We love popsicle stick crafts because they are usually pretty easy and don’t require a lot of supplies. This Popsicke Stick Sun Craft for kids is simple and a super cute craft idea for summertime. You can also make this smiley popsicle stick sun craft all year long to brighten up someone’s day!
Popsicle stick crafts are inexpensive and I love watching children’s imaginations and what they can create out of something as simple as a popsicle stick. Be sure to check out the list of fun books at the end of this post to go along with this fun popsicle stick craft idea.
Popsicle Stick Sun Craft Supplies Needed:
- 18 Popsicle Sticks
- Washable Glue
- Washable Paint (we used yellow and orange)
- Paintbrush
- Marker (to draw face)
- Googley eyes
- Scissors
- Washable Glitter Glue
- Yellow Construction Paper (for face)
Popsicle Stick Sun Craft Instructions:
1. Gather your supplies and then place 6 popsicle sticks into a hexagon shape and glue them together.
2. Grab the 12 remaining popsicle sticks and place them around your hexagon the way that you would like the sun’s rays to look and glue them to the bottom of the hexagon. *Tip: I placed extra popsicle sticks under some of the ones I glued so they could be more flush while drying. Simply remove the extra sticks after the glued-on sticks dry to the hexagon.
3. After the popsicle sticks glue dries you can paint your hexagon shape and the sun’s rays. We used yellow and orange washable paint.
4. After the paint dries you can cut out your yellow construction paper to fit the back of your hexagon (where the face will go). Glue it onto the back. After it dries then you can add your googley eyes and use any black marker to draw on the sun’s smiley face.
5. Optional: We added yellow and orange glitter glue to give the sun’s rays a nice sparkly look.
6. That’s it! Once it’s all dry you can put it on your child’s bedroom wall or in your kid’s playroom for some fun decor. This would also be super cute hanging up in a classroom!
We hope you enjoy making this Popsicle Stick Sun Craft for kids as much as we did!
